The Australian federal government releases an updated version of its Skilled Occupations List in an attempt to ensure that the skilled occupations that appear on the released list will fill all shortages for the following year.
The Skilled Occupations List which is released by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection, is used for the following visa applications: the 189 Skilled Independent Visa, the 489 Skilled Regional Provisional Visa and the 485 Graduate Temporary Visa.
The Department of Immigration and Border Protection released the Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List in addition to the Skilled Occupations List. The Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List is used for the following visa applications: the 190 Skilled Nominated Visa, the 457 Temporary Work Skilled Visa and the 186 Employer Nominated Scheme.
No major changes were made to the Australian Skilled Occupations List in comparison to previous years. However, because of the downturn in the oil, mining and gas industry some changes were made.
